Get Ready To Dive Into Paradise – Discover The Best Beaches In Turks And Caicos
Some of the best beaches in Turks and Caicos are small and solitary. These hidden gems brim with water fun, wildlife, and leisure. Their sparkling sand and tranquil waters are bring-you-to-tears beautiful. Check out these jewels that have just as much sparkle as a genuine diamond!
1) Sapodilla Bay Beach
Sapodilla Beach is nestled in a small, sheltered cove on the south coast of Providenciales (Provo). It offers shallow, aquamarine waters that are ideal for children or for adults who would rather wade than swim. Although the Caicos Islands enjoy continuously warm waters, Sapodilla’s secluded location keeps them even toastier.
Lively Sapodilla Bay is brimming with waterfront food vendors and whizzing jet skis. The area also has excellent snorkeling, so prepare for close encounters with coral, sea urchins, and vibrant reef fish.
Hundreds of years ago, Sapodilla was a popular pirate hideout. Visit Sapodilla Hill, and check out ancient carvings of shipwrecked buccaneers.
2) Taylor Bay Beach
Less boisterous than nearby Sapodilla Beach, Provo’s Taylor Beach is one of the safest Turks and Caicos beaches. If you literally want to dip a toe in the water, the spectacular crystal-blue ocean is ankle-high for hundreds of feet. The area is sheltered from southeast trade winds, so there’s no need to worry about dangerous undertows or currents.
When the tide is low, keep an eye out for the intricate, rippling patterns it carves in the sand. If you decide to soak up Taylor Bay’s tropical bliss, be sure to bring your own food, beverages, and chairs, because the island’s only amenities are soft sand and ocean water!
3) Grace Bay Beach
Grace Bay is one of Turks and Caicos most spectacular beaches. It’s consistently ranked as the best in the world, and many visitors consider it to be the best beach in Turks and Caicos. Located on Providenciales North Coast in the Princess Alexandra Nature Preserve, Grace Bay is what fantasies are made of. It has no seaweed, rocks, or pollution, and a barrier reef half a mile away keeps the azure waters calm.
You can wander along the velvety, white sand, kick back and sunbathe, or try water sports such as:
-
Kayaking
-
Snorkeling
-
Parasailing
If you’d like to indulge in the opulence of private villas or a luxury resort, Grace Bay boasts some of the finest. Grace Bay Club is a great choice for superb, upscale lodgings. It’s an all-suite resort, and each room has a spectacular oceanfront view.
4) Leeward Beach
If you enjoy solitude, you’ll love picturesque Leeward Beach. Unlike Grand Turk, this enchanting, secluded beach usually has very few visitors and is one of Turks and Caicos most romantic beaches. Walk hand-in-hand with your sweetheart in the blaze of fabulous sunsets or roam spun-sugar dunes.
One of the best beaches in Turks and Caicos for seashell collecting, you can search for the island’s celebrated conch shells, as well as little treasures including:
-
Triton
-
Cowries
-
Scallops
Feeling energetic? Leeward’s East side has channels ideal for kayaking, wakeboarding, and paddleboarding.
5) Salt Cay
Nicknamed “the island that time forgot,” this 2.6 square-mile cay lacks the development, tourism, resorts, and luxury hotels crowding other Turks and Caicos Islands. It has few vehicles, unpaved roads, and a population of just shy of 100 people. It’s rivaled only by Middle Caicos, whose residents number about 200.
The Cay offers a variety of Turks and Caicos best beaches. It features cozy beaches on its western and north coasts and rugged bluffs, a rocky coastline, and choppy waves on its eastern side. The best beach on the cay is North Bay. It offers lustrous blue waters, pillowy sand, and several snorkeling reefs.
6) Water Cay
Water Cay is perfect for travelers who want even more isolation than is offered by Salt Cay. The island is completely uninhabited and undeveloped. The northern coastline features calm, breathtakingly blue waters, soft sand and a border of weathered limestone ridges. Since it’s connected by a sandbar to Iguana Island and Pine Cay, exploring all three islands is a breeze! The cay was slated for development, but luckily the 2009 economic downturn halted the project.
7) Long Bay Beach
Long Bay Beach is the number one spot for kiteboarding on Provo. With constant trade winds, shallow, flat waters, and a cushiony ocean floor, it’s perfect for pros and novices alike. These conditions are also helpful for people who are learning to swim.
The area is refreshingly un-touristy and lacks annoying crowds. Luxury rental villas and private homes pepper Long Bay, but they’re less plentiful than on other islands. If you need a break from the bustling kiteboarding areas, try the quieter, more leisurely east end of the beach.
8) Half Moon Bay
Half Moon, a crescent-shaped sand bar beach with absolutely no development, feels like your very own private island. Often considered the best beach in Turks and Caicos for solitude, it’s surrounded by corrugated limestone cliffs that fringe dazzling white sand and balmy, jade-green waters.
Experience the encounter of a lifetime by befriending one of Half Moon’s cold-blooded but warm-hearted iguanas. Enjoy Half Moon’s solitude and seclusion by kicking back with a good book, enjoying an idyllic waterside stroll, or watching the island’s myriad photogenic birds including:
-
Egrets
-
Pelicans
-
Herons
9) Blue Hills Beach
Blue Hills was the first settlement on Providenciales. The most popular activity here is driving along the camera-ready Blue Hills Road. A trek on this paved, three-mile road offers spectacular ocean views, as well as glimpses of swaying coconut palms, small sailboats, festively painted buildings, and cozy churches.
Blue Hills Beach is best for a day of sightseeing and relaxation. It’s not ideal for swimming and snorkeling because its shallow waters are often clogged with seaweed and littered with broken coral.
